As an Engineering & Facilities Maintenance Technician Training Assistant (MTTA), you are part of a team that supports technical learning in a variety of maintenance-related disciplines for Maintenance Technicians and Maintenance Technician Trainees. Your mission is to facilitate the rapid training and development of technical talent using an apprenticeship model of classroom instruction, self-paced computer-based training, and hands-on training in a lab environment of training devices, and hands-on maintenance on production equipment.
You will collaborate closely with the Senior Systems Technical Trainer to facilitate the instruction of the curriculum, supporting technicians with online module learning topics. As an expert Maintenance Technician, you will coach other Target Maintenance Technicians on the competencies of the curriculum being taught in order to enable high-quality training in safety, equipment calibration and precision, and troubleshooting of automation systems. The MTTA will support validating proficiency of technical theory and hands-on skills demonstrations performed by Maintenance Technician Trainees and update progress tracking of hands-on skills to ensure validation of competencies are able to meet aggressive timelines for certifying trainees. You will assist the Maintenance Technician Trainees in learning the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated material handling equipment and ensure high equipment availability rates. You will provide initial demonstration of hands-on skills and support the Senior Systems Technical Trainer in assessing Maintenance Technician Trainees on their ability to perform hands-on skills. You will demonstrate proper safety and maintenance processes and observe trainee’s progress in mastering required skills in rapidly diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment. You may be assigned preventative or corrective maintenance tasks to support training and business needs.
A successful candidate in this role will have expert job knowledge in the following areas:
- Maintain and troubleshoot all electrical and mechanical aspects of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) on site, including conveyor and sortation systems, robotics, or Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS)
- Adjust scanners, cameras, field buses, scales, and printer applicators
- Reset, repair, or replace adjustable components (belts, chains, cables) and wearing components (guides, bearings, wheels, rollers, pulleys)
- Clean, lubricate, and calibrate equipment
- Use appropriate job plans, procedures, and manuals
- Maintain and troubleshoot motors, photo eyes, relays, proximity sensors, solenoids, motor starters, tachometers, encoders, etc.
- Assist with basic electronics/ Programmable Logic Controls troubleshooting
- Conduct maintenance and basic troubleshooting of all types of industrial robots
- Utilize handheld devices and asset management system mobile apps to create and close work orders with appropriate data (labor hours, downtime, problem/cause/remedy, and parts used)
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships across all levels of the organization
- Follow applicable safety procedures, use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while maintaining equipment (Lock Out/Tag Out, Arc Flash, etc.), and ensure a safe work environment by identifying and eliminating potential equipment safety hazards

Physical Demands (must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation):
- Regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching both below the waist and above the head
- Lifting and moving totes up to 49 pounds each
- Walking within and around the site with great frequency
- Ability to climb ladders and gangways safely and without limitation, and work off platforms and equipment at significant heights
- Full manual dexterity in both hands and wrists, eye/hand coordination, feet (foot pedals), manual (picking, pinching, holding, grasping), and wrist motion (repetitive flexion/rotation)
- Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes/odors, hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces
- Ability to stand/walk for up to 10-12 hours
About you:
- Computer competency and ability to use mobile apps on handheld devices
- Familiarity with wiring diagrams, symbols, and electrical measuring
- Experience in the following areas:
- Work order management
- Preventive/predictive maintenance procedures
- Basic blueprint and schematic reading
- Electrical and electronic principles
- Basic metal fabrication and welding
- Industrial Controls and Electronics
- Ability to troubleshoot basic Input/Output functions
- Programmable Logic Control (PLC) programs
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Strong communications and organizational skills
- Proven record of assessing team members’ technical skills and providing improvement plans
- Display enthusiasm for learning and teaching others
Desired Qualifications:
- Degree from a vocational school or college with a focus in the Mechanical or Electrical field
- 2+ years apprenticeship or equivalent experience in the Mechanical or Electrical field
- Completion of all three modules of the Certified Technician – Supply Chain Automation
- Experience with automated conveyor systems and controls
- Experience with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards
- Experience with robotic operations/maintenance
