Our Beauty Consultants have the unique opportunity to impact guests in the moment by making every interaction count. When we activate our Beauty force of passionate and knowledgeable consultants, guests feel welcomed and inspired to make a purchase. Beauty Consultants make personalized suggestions and solutions through meaningful interactions and sampling events - making the Beauty experience easy and rewarding for guests. It is their priority to put the guest first.

At Target, we believe in our team members having meaningful experiences that help them build and develop skills for a career. The role of a Beauty Consultant can provide you with the:

  • Ability to adapt communication style to build a trusting relationship with guests and influence beauty regimens
  • Ability to provide personalized beauty product and regimen recommendations through guest engagement, product training, and sampling events
  • Experience in retail business fundamentals including: -, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotions strategies
  • Knowledge in beauty products including: beauty brands, seasonal trends, cosmetics and various skincare products

As a Beauty Consultant, no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will most likely include the following responsibilities:

  • Gain knowledge from store tools to have a clear understanding of your key metrics, top and bottom departments, inventory levels, top shortage categories, guest traffic, and peak times
  • Create a welcoming experience by authentically greeting all guests
  • Observe to quickly understand whether a guest needs assistance or wants to interact. Follow body language and verbal clues to tailor your approach
  • Engage with guests in a genuine way, which includes asking questions to better understand their specific needs
  • Be knowledgeable about the tools, products, and services available in the total store, and specific to your area, to solve issues for the guest and improve their experience  
  • Stay current on brands and trends
  • Engage and inspire guests through personal recommendations and product sampling
  • Create an inviting shopping environment by ensuring product is organized, instock, signed correctly and available for guests to shop
  • Encourage guests to explore Beauty with confidence by making sure the area is clean and testers are functioning
  • Support changes to product assortment and keep Beauty inspiring to guests all year round by remerchandising new product and maintaining a brand space following new sets
  • Help guests find the right products that fit their skin care regimen or make-up routine
  • Engage with guests by suggesting multiple products that fit within their budget to complete their beauty needs
  • Leverage product packaging to share product features and benefits with the guest
  • Highlight and introduce guests to new brands to build loyalty and brand affinity through sampling events and by offering trial products
  • Upon final selection, ask if there is anything else you can do for the guest
  • Thank the guest in a genuine way and let them know we’re happy they chose to shop at Target and remind them that you are here to help in the future
  • Leverage Beauty Routines to prioritize guest interaction and engagement while balancing task
  • Always demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance
  • Work in a safe manner at all times to benefit yourself and others; identify and correct hazards; comply with all safety policies and best practices.
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier, order pick up (OPU) and Drive-up (DU) and maintain a compliance culture while executing those duties, such as compliance with federal, state, and local adult beverage laws.
  • All other duties based on business needs

The good news is that we have some amazing training that will help teach you everything you need to know to be a Beauty Consultant. But there are a few skills you should have from the get-go:

  • 12+ months previous beauty retail experience preferred, but not required
  • Strong interest and knowledge of beauty and skincare products
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and other team members
  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners, and other technology equipment as directed. Effective communication skills
  • Work both independently and with a team
  • Resolve guest questions quickly on the spot
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.

  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
  • Climb up and down ladders
  • Scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 15 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds without additional assistance from others.
  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends and holidays); reliable and prompt attendance necessary
  • Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties including but not limited to Drive-Up, carryout, etc.
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary).
